While I have been a Camp Mom for many wonderful summers, and talk professionally to parents daily, I have been holding camp chats in different communities to hear what's really on the minds of camp parents today. I want to be armed with real time insights for my American Camp Association (ACA) speaking engagements at this winter's conferences.
What have I learned? These overnight Camp Moms are bursting with feedback for camp directors. I have always encouraged directors to reach out to their constituents for input, but it's not always comfortable to do so. And that's where I come in. That objective third party who sees and sits in both 'camps,' who can more easily extract information as a trusted source to parents, and then share the findings with directors who also trust my judgment and industry experience.
While I am still in the midst of the chats, and synthesizing the findings, what I have found thus far is the genuine willingness of the moms to share experiences. While a few in each group may know each other, some are meeting for the first time, bonding over their commonality of sending their child to overnight camp, and learning from each other. No one is holding back and I am loving this!
I can't wait to share my findings at the American Camp Association conferences.
